- A Multi-User Shared Hallucination
- Never played a MUSH before? Wonder what it's all about? MUSH stands for Multi-User Shared Hallucination. Remember Return to Zork? It's like that... but with multiple users connecting at the same time over the Internet. Why would you want to play a text-based game when you can play a graphical one like Diablo II or Everquest? Well, why would you want to read a book when you could watch a movie? It's simple: In a text-based adventure, the only limit is your imagination! Besides, it's free! You may choose to purchase a special software to connect to a MUSH, but there are plenty of free options available for download as well. No special equipment is required. You can MUSH from any computer platform with even a very slow connection to the Internet. Whether you're running Windows, Unix, Mac, DOS, or even Palm OS (keyboard recommended), you can play on a MUSH. Visit the Links and New sections of this web site for more information.

- Okay, so what exactly is OneRing?
- OneRing MUSH has been around a very long time, in a sense, but it has gone through a lot of changes. For the last several years, it was Tangled Web MUSH, which had multiple fantasy themes to choose from, including a Middle-earth world. This was fun, but it seemed to be confusing to newcomers. So the Wizards decided to trim off the other themes and convert into a MUSH based solely on The Hobbit. Our virtual existence begins right where The Hobbit leaves off. As we begin our adventures, Bilbo has recently returned to The Shire. The Dwarves are rebuilding their home under the Mountain, and the humans are rebuilding Laketown after Smaug's rampage. You can choose to be a Hobbit, a Human, a Dwarf, an Elf, an Orc, a Goblin, a Troll... so many choices! As a citizen of Middle-earth, you can wander about and make friends with people, learn a trade, earn money, and gain social status. But watch out! Middle-earth can be a dangerous place, too. OneRing has a combat system installed to add an element of danger and suspense to the game.

- What are you waiting for?
- If your computer has a telnet program installed and is configured to auto-launch it, then clicking on the "Connect Now" link should automatically connect you to OneRing. Alternatively, if you have a dedicated MUD/MUSH client installed (see Links to find one), you can point it to tangled.floop.com port 9876 to connect. A client makes it easier to navigate MU* games, but telnet will work in a pinch and most currently shipping operating systems have a telnet client preinstalled. If you're still not sure that you want to make a character, log in as Guest or visit the Wizards page and email one of the Wizards for more information.
